How to Change your water Filter

To reduce risk of water damage to your property DO NOT use generic brands of water filters in your SAMSUNG Refrigerator.

USE ONLY SAMSUNG BRAND WATER FILTERS. SAMSUNG will not be legally responsible for any damage, including, but not limited to property damage caused by water leakage from use of a generic water filter. SAMSUNG Refrigerators are designed to work ONLY WITH SAMSUNG Water Filters.

The “Filter Indicator” light lets you know when it is time to change your water filter cartridge. When the filter indicator light changes to red, it is time to change the filter. To give you some time to get a new filter, the light will come on up just before the capacity of the current filter runs out. Changing the filter on time provides you with the freshest, cleanest water from your fridge.

1. Remove the water filter from the box and put a month indicator sticker on the filter as shown.

2. Place a sticker on the filter that dates six months in the future. For example, if you are replacing the water filter in March, put the “SEP” (September) sticker on the filter to remind you to replace in September. Normally filter life is about every 6 months.

3. Next, remove the fixed cap by turning it counter clockwise.

4. Remove the new filter’s protective cap and remove the old filter.

5. Position and insert the new filter into the filter housing. Slowly turn the water filter clockwise 90º to align with the indication mark on the cover, locking the filter in position. Make sure that the indicator is lined up with the “lock” position. Do not over tighten.

 

6. Once you have completed this process, hold the Ice Type button for 3 seconds to reset the filter schedule.

7. Lastly, Dispense 1L of water through water dispenser and throw away. Make sure that water flows clearly again before drinking.

 

A newly installed water filter cartridge may cause water to briefly spurt from the water dispenser. This is due to air getting into the line. It should pose no problem to operation.

How to Reset The Water Filter Indicator

Your French Door refridgerator is equipped with a water filter indicator light that reminds you when it is time to replace the water filter. Typically, you should replace the water filter every 6 months.

 

The indicator light changes colour as time passes. Below are the indicator light colour codes:

  • The filter indicator light is blue and the light is always illuminated, it will change colours, but it will never turn off.
  • The filter indicator light is pink when the water filter is 5 months old
  • The filter indicator light is red when the water filter is 6 months old

After removing the old water filter and installing a new one, reset the indicator light by pressing and holding the "Alarm / Hold" for 3 seconds for Filter Reset.

For models with interior controls press and hold the Fridge and Power Cool buttons simultaineously for 3 seconds

Why change your filter every 6 months

Manufacturers ask us to change our water filters in our fridges every 6 months and this is why….

Most refrigerator water filters, which meet NSF/ANSI 42 certification standards, use granular activated carbon (GAC) to attract chemicals and impurities responsible for bad taste and odour.

These filters are not capable, however, to rid water of more dangerous, health-threatening contaminants. The method by which water is channelled through the filters does not allow sufficient time to complete the absorption of the bad substances. So Various bacteria are formed, trapped and allowed to multiply, which further contaminates water processed by the filters.

Carbon is not capable to absorb heavy metals, such as lead. GAC filters may trap some heavy metals and sediments, but allow others to filter through to the output water.

Failure to change the water filter, every six months, allows unabsorbed water contaminants and newly formed bacteria to saturate the filter, forcing the filter to leak contaminants back into processed water.

The water output may contain more contaminants than the filter was intended to remove in the first place.

Conclusion......

If you don’t change these filter you are going to be consuming bad contaminants which could have serious adverse effects on your health

Be safe change you filters every six months & buy a quality filter that meets the NSF/ANSI 42 certification standards which are usually the original manufacturers parts.

Beware......

There are many cheaper copy versions on sale on ebay, which you might believe to be a bargain, just be carefull and check they pass the relevent standards or go with the original manufacturers parts to be sure.
